Your unique blueprint:
All people have their own unique blueprint. A blend of character traits, skills and preferences: their true soul.
Just like plants, trees and animals, all humans have an innate ability to grow into their true selves. Given decent conditions we can emerge authentically and bloom in line with our blueprint.
Causes of soul loss:
Throughout my years as a therapist, I've seen the ways in which people can get disconnected from their soul and feel dissatisfied by their life and the way they are living.
Trauma causes parts of self to go into hiding, scared by the extreme implications of what has been experienced. When these parts of self dissappear, we lose core aspects of ourselves and are no longer in touch with our whole soul.
Cultural and family expectations frame our experiences and sometimes it is not safe to be all that we truly are so we prune the ways we engage with the world. Maybe we squash down our anger because we were told being angry was bad and shameful. Maybe we dismiss our desires for a quiet afternoon reading a book because it's not productive and we should be 'doing' more. Messages received from loved ones and society cause us to overemphasize parts of self that seem to be valued. We can then be left exhausted from overusing these parts and bereft because there are other parts that don't get a look in.
Reconnecting with your true soul:
Therapy provides a space to begin to sort through the ways in which we live and grow. Beginning with symptoms that often bring people into therapy, you can start to understand how you have adapted to your unique environment and you can explore whether this once vital adaptation may have caused you to disconnect from your true soul. You will be able to make choices about how you want to shape your life going forward and decide in what ways you want to be more authentically yourself. You'll have a chance to step into your soul.
