FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I’ve compiled a list of the most frequent questions that I receive. It’s normal and encouraged for people to ask many questions when choosing to work with a Psychotherapist. Here are some answers to the questions I receive the most. If you can’t find what you are looking for, please get in touch.

FAQ: FAQ

HOW LONG IS EACH SESSION AND WHAT ARE YOUR FEES?

Online sessions last 50 mins and are £55. Outdoor sessions last 60 mins and £65.

WHAT IS INTEGRATIVE THERAPY?

I am an Integrative Psychotherapist. This means I have training in a wide range of models, including Person Centred therapy, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt therapy, Psychodynamic therapy and creative methods. Having a number of ways to work therapeutically allows me to adapt my technique to meet the needs of individual clients. To learn more about the benefits of Integrative Psychotherapy please see my blog post.

HOW DO YOU MANAGE CONFIDENTIALITY?

Confidentiality and trust are extremely important aspects of therapy. It's important that you feel able to discuss anything as freely as possible. I abide by the UKCP code of ethics in relation to how I manage my work with clients and handle sensitive data.

When working outdoors in a space where other people are present it may be possible to be overheard. One of the reasons I have chosen to work in Kiplin Hall is because the site is large with a number of quieter and secluded areas so there is usually plenty of privacy. Although this is often the case it is important to be aware of the possibility of other people being present in the grounds during your sessions.

Working online also poses some confidentiality issues. It is important that you are in a private space when accessing online therapy so that you can't be overheard or interrupted during your therapy sessions. To ensure online confidentiality I use full privacy settings on the online meeting platform Zoom, which ensures only you can access the meeting.

Do feel free to make contact to discuss more about how you feel about this and to ask any questions you have.

WHAT IS AN INITIAL SESSION LIKE?

Initial sessions are different from ongoing therapy. In the initial session we will have a chance to meet each other and discuss what you are looking for. I will take a range of personal details and background information to get a sense of what you are grappling with and to also ensure I have up to date contact details.

It is often the case that people get stuck in life when issues in the here and now reconnect to experiences in the past so the initial session will give you the chance to describe where you are now and also share your history.

All initial sessions will be held online, even for people wanting to work outdoors. This provides an additional layer of confidentiality when you are sharing lots of personal information in one go and also gives an opportunity to discuss the practicalities of working outdoors.

IS THERE ANY PAPERWORK TO FILL IN?

Before the initial session I will share my privacy policy will you which outlines how I store and handle your data in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
Following the initial session and assuming we agree to work together, I will share the business contract for the work which confirms the frame of the work including confidentiality, session payment and the cancellation policy.
Both these documents need to be electronically signed by both of us to confirm that we understand the framework for our work together.

WHEN ARE SESSIONS AVAILABLE?

I currently have availability for outdoor sessions at Kiplin Hall on a Monday and Tuesday. I have some availability for online sessions at other times during the week. Please make contact to make a query or book an initial session.

WHAT ABOUT THE WEATHER WHEN WORKING OUTDOORS?

There is a covered area with seating that is usually available to sit in on rainy days. Sessions will be held in all weathers so it is important to dress to match the weather of the day and season. The only exceptions to this are if Kiplin Hall grounds are closed and inaccesible. This may happen in severe snow or storms. Online sessions will be offered as an alternative in these circumstances.

WHERE IS KIPLIN HALL AND HOW DO I GET THERE?

Kiplin Hall is located in North Yorkshire between Northallerton and Richmond with easy access from the A1. There is ample parking on site and it is also accessible by bicycle and the Richmond - Northallerton bus service.

The full address is Kiplin Hall near Scorton, Richmond, North Yorkshire, DL10 6AT.

All my clients have free access to the grounds during their therapy session and also free access to the parking area and toilets.

You can find out more details about the venue including an area map at Kiplin Hall's website

DO I NEED TO BE FIT TO HAVE OUTDOOR SESSIONS?

We can tailor sessions to meet your needs and can find places to sit for some or all of your session if you wish. Most fitness and activity levels can be accomodated and if you've got specific queries then you do contact me so we can discuss these further.
